I was super lucky to be able to go on a lot of mini trips this year seeing pieces of the West Coast and much more of the fabulous Northwest. My favorite trip by far - in retrospect - was to the other side of our state.
At the time the trip was less than favorable. 8 hour drive turned into 10. No AC. Bad directions. No cell coverge. Part of our party coming up separately. At our campsite in the Beaverlake Resort, it was getting closer to midnight my husband along with a few of his buddies went down to use the Payphone coming back 30 minutes later forgetting how to use a Payphone. Dirty. Rain. Freezing showers in chilly weather. Lightning. No sleep. Dehydrated. Hungover.
Now when facing the question, ‘what was my best trip in 2009′ I immediately thought of Colville. Isn’t it funny how that works out? Why was it the best?
Camping with Mr. Donogh. We had a few other camping trips of the summer, but this was the first time we went from our tiny tent to one that I could stand up in! Makes changing out of muddy dirt bike clothes easier!
Dirt biking. We met up with family who have moved to Colville to go riding. We hadn’t gone riding with them since before we were married. My sister-in-law being an insane rider, unfortunately has had to deal with a few medical issues, but she was powering through and keeping up with the boys. Very inspiring; if you love to do something you will find a way to make it happen.
Friends and family. I loved catching up with family and really enjoyed being able to spend the long weekend with our friends. I realized in 2009 that life is so much more easier and enjoyable when you spend it with people you like. Seems obvious, eh? Not when you think about how many hours in the week you spend with people you would rather not.
Beautiful Scenery. Washington State is gorgeous. We drove through a moutain pass, desert, farmland, towns you only see in movies about an idealized American past, around a lake, and back into the mountains. Washington has such variation in landscapes. If you haven’t made it out to some of the less thought of areas, make a plan to do so in 2010.

Such honesty in this line:
