The name of my blog is SOHO Wife. This is usually confused for SOHO as a district where I live, but it is in fact a lifestyle in which I partake in. SOHO stands for Small Office/Home Office; running a business from home, or working out of your home office is a growing trend today. One of the luxuries of “working from home” that I love the most is the ability to change your environment. During the summer especially I become incredibly restless as most people do. When it is hot outside, or the sun is shining, the last place I want to be is in my home. This past summer I realized that I don’t have to be in my home to work. I can go outside on the deck under our shade and work from the patio table just as well.
Our backyard deck was my favorite place of 2009. This was my first summer living in our new home, so the first time I was afforded this luxury. In the mid morning when it started to warm up I would set up the shade to block the sun, layout a nice place mat, make iced coffee and bring my phone and laptop outside. I could still access the Internet and my neighborhood is quiet enough to hold complete conversations over the phone while outdoors. It was fantastic! Apart from working out on my deck, my appreciation for it grew with family gatherings, and late dinners outside with Mr. Donogh.
Now that we are coming close to Winter I miss my deck, but am more than happy to work under a comfy throw blanket while in wool socks and sipping my coffee. How do you make your work environment work for you?

One of my favorite places is my front porch, where a desk and a comfy chair live… along with books and stuff within easy reach… but like you where you are, we are getting inclement weather in Bakersfield so I move inside to my kitchen table, most of the time, where the view is similar just not… outdoors. Love this post!
