My beautiful baby boy was born 4 weeks ago from yesterday at 11:55 PM. Seeing as it has been 4 weeks (wow, time goes by so fast now!) I wanted to checkin and do a fast review of what I have begun to realize after being a small office/home office wife, mom, and entrepreneur.
1. Batching time is necessary.
The first time I heard the term, “batching” was in an Ali Brown blog where she detailed five areas in which you can accomplish more by doing more of the same thing at one time during the day. Since then I have heard the term everywhere. Batching tasks seems to be the trend in productivity today. While I never really adopted it per say while I was without child, I so see the value of it now. I started doing this immediately without noticing it. My little Donogh sleeps and then needs to eat and have his diaper changed- repeat- for the most part. I have 3 hour spurts of time where I check off a long list of action items. I have had great results by putting like tasks together.
2. Motivated moms work harder.
I’m not going to lie, at the moment the number one thing that is motivating me to keep plugging ahead in the business is to make money. Babies are expensive. With that said, are you in need of web hosting :) No matter what though, I always want to be doing my best in business. I am a fairly competitive person and I want to be on top of my game at all times.
However, I am being much more intentional in the time I spend working than I was when I was not a mother. I want everything I do to be directly moving me forward in one way or another. The lifestyle I want as my baby grows older is one where I can choose to be with him rather than having to be working 9 to 5 in the business.
3. Be chill.
I like my home to be clean and organized, much like my life. When I have something to be done I want it done right away. Baby boy Donogh doesn’t care as much as I do, so I have learned quickly to chill out and remind myself of my priorities and be happy about what I am able to accomplish each day.
Overall…
I am more and more aware everyday of what an amazing husband I have, how absolutely incredible our mothers are, that I love building Ovaleye into a business that helps other women do what I am doing, and how much I love and adore my Baby Boy Donogh!

I am a SOHO Wife and write this blog for women working out of a small office or home office that are looking for inspiration in developing and sustaining a healthy SOHO lifestyle.

Jenn I think you were born to be a mom entrepreneur! You are doing an amazing job at balancing business and motherhood. I can relate to all three of your realizations…and it’s funny how things evolve as your children get older. I can remember batching during nap time. Now that I have two very active toddlers, I batch in days! haha Thanks for the great post!
